Curriculum

Patrizio Campisi is currently Full Professor with the Dept. of Engineering, Section of Applied Electronics at the Università degli Studi "Roma Tre", Roma, Italy, where he is the director of the Biometric Systems and Multimedia Forensics laboratory. He is a Marie Curie Fellow. He received the “Laurea” degree ("summa cum laude") in Electronic Engineering from the Università degli Studi di Roma "La Sapienza", Roma Italy and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Università degli Studi "Roma Tre", Roma Italy. He joined the Department of Applied Electronics, Università degli Studi "Roma Tre", Roma Italy in 2002 first as an Assistant Professor and then in 2006 as an Associate Professor. He got the qualification as Full Professor in September 2011. From September 1997 until April 1998 he has been a visiting research associate at the Communication Laboratory of the University of Toronto, Canada and from July 2000 until November 2000 he was a Post Doctoral fellow in the same laboratory. From October 1999 to October 2001 he has been a Post Doctoral position at the Università degli Studi "Roma Tre", where he is also lecturer for the graduate course "Signal Theory" since 1998. He has been recipient of a NATO¬/CNR advanced fellowship in 2003. From March 2003 until June 2003 he has been a visiting researcher at the Beckman Institute, “University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign”, Illinois (USA). In March/April 2006, in July 2007, in April - June 2009, and in July 2011 he has been a visiting professor at the École Polytechnique de l’Université de Nantes, with the “Equipe Image Vidéo Communication (IVC)” at IRCCyN, Nantes, France. He is co-recipient of: • IEEE International Conference on Image Processing 2006 (ICIP06) best student paper award, for the paper "Contour detection by multiresolution surround inhibition"; • IEEE Biometric Symposium 2007 best paper award for the paper "Biometric Signature Authentication using Radon Transform based Watermarking Techniques"; • IEEE Second International Conference on Biometrics: Theory, Application and Systems 2008 best student paper award for the paper "Cancelable Biometrics for HMM-based signature Recognition ". He is: • co-editor of the book “High Dynamic Range Video, Concepts, Technologies and Applications, Academic Press, November 2016. • editor of the book "Security and Privacy in Biometrics", SPRINGER, July 2013. • co-editor of the book "Blind Image Deconvolution: theory and applications", CRC press, Boca Raton (FL) USA, May 2007. His research interests lie in the area of digital signal, image, and video processing with applications to biometrics and secure multimedia communications. Specifically, he has been working on secure biometric recognition, image and video forensics, digital watermarking for images, video, and stereo images, image deconvolution, image restoration, image analysis, stereo image analysis and enhancement, quality assessment of stereo images, High Dynamic Range (HDR) imaging, texture coding, synthesis, and classification, video processing, blind equalization of data signals, and secure communications. He currently focuses his research activity mainly on biometric based recognition systems with emphasis on the design of feature extraction algorithms, on matching algorithms, on the security and privacy issues in biometrics, on biometric template protection (transformation based approaches and biometric cryptosystems), on multi-biometric systems, biometric data hiding, and forensic biometrics. He is IEEE SPS Director Student Services (Jan. 2015 – Dec. 2017) and technical chair for the IEEE SPS Information and security Technical Committee (Jan. 2017 - Dec 2018). He is a member of the IEEE Technical Committee on Information Assurance & Intelligent Multimedia- Mobile Communications, system, Man, and Cybernetics Society (2007 - present). He is currently Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security (2018-2020). He has been an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security (Jan. 2011 – Dec. 2014). He has been an Associate Editor of IEEE Signal Processing Letters (Dec. 2008 – Dec. 2011), and Senior Associate editor of IEEE Signal Processing Letters (Jan. 2012 – March 2016). He has been an elected member of the IEEE Information Forensics and Security Technical Committee (Jan. 2011 – Dec. 2013) and a member of IEEE Certified Biometric Program (CBP) Learning System Committee. He is an Associate editor of IET Biometrics (Dec. 2011 – present). He is an associate editor of Advances in Multimedia by Hindawi (Jan. 2009 - present), of EURASIP Journal on Information Security (Jan. 2011 – present), and of IET Biometrics (Dec. 2011 – present). He is the General-Chair of General Chair of the “26th European Signal Processing Conference 2018 ” (EUSIPCO), September 2018, Roma, Italy. He has been the General-Chair of: • the “Seventh IEEE Workshop in Information Forensics and Security”, WIFS 2015, Nov. 16-19, 2015, Roma, Italy; • the 2014 IEEE Workshop on Biometric Measurements and Systems for Security and Medical Applications, October 2014, Rome, Italy • the 12th ACM Workshop on Multimedia and Security, September 9-10, 2010 Roma, Italy. He has been Program co-Chair of: • the “First ACM Workshop on Information Hiding and Multimedia Security”, June 2013, Montpellier, France; • the “Fourth IEEE Workshop in Information Forensics and Security”, WIFS 2012, Dec. 2-5, 2012, Spain. He is the scientific coordinator at the Università degli Studi Roma TRE of the EU EU H2020-MSCA-ITN-2015 “enhAnced Mobile BiomEtRics” (AMBER), 2017-2020. He is the scientific coordinator at the Università degli Studi Roma TRE of the EU H2020-MSCA-RISE-2015 “ENhancing seCurity and privAcy in the Social wEb: a user-centered approach for the protection of minors,” (ENCASE), 2016-2019. He is the Italian delegate for the European COST Action IC1106 "Integrating Biometrics and Forensics for the Digital Age" (2012-2016). He is the Italian delegate for the European COST Action IC1206 "De-identification for privacy protection in multimedia content" (2013-2017). He has been the Italian delegate for the European COST Action IC1005 "HDRi: The digital capture, storage, transmission, and display of real world lighting" (2010-2014) and of the European COST Action 2101 "Biometrics for Identity documents and smart cards"(2006-2010). He has been the scientific coordinator at the Università degli Studi Roma TRE for the EU-FP7 thematic network “BEST Thematic Network, Biometrics European Stakeholders Network” (Oct. 2009-Oct.2011) and of the EU FP7 The people programme, Industry-Academia Partnerships and Pathways: “Digital Image and Video Forensics” (2010-2014).
