A portrait of a novel and of his birth: I Promessi sposi di Alessandro Manzoni. Reading and interpretation of Manzoni's masterpiece, including the most important critical problems. Some lessons will be focusing on problems of methodology in literary Studies, for a specialized study of Italian literature.

Reading a literary masterpiece of the period, selected during the course, and a monography related to the same book.
Reading and interpreting two classical pieces of the Italian literature, to be chosen throughout the course (including appropriate introduction and explanatory notes).
Non-attending students will be requested to contact the professor for further bibliographical guidelines.
