(syllabus)
The course will test the chronicles of the conquest of America, le Crónicas de Indias, which is about the analysis of their language system and about the possibilities and the ways of translating. The 36 hours of frontal lessons consist of an essentially theoretical part, which is intended to illustrate, in a generale diatopic configuration, the main Spanish morphosyntactic and lexical features in its most popular American variants.
These variants will be observed through the exemplary analysis of tests of variuos typologies, as well as the support of audiovisual instruments. The second part of the course is devoted to the translating practice : the student will be able to perform translation proofs on piece of texts given by the teacher and to analyse and compare the results of these experiences. The translating practice will be supported by the discussion on methodological problems, on the reflection on the act of translating as linguistic and cultural mediation and on the specific implications.
