Moses, an hero between exaltation and defeat.
Since antiquity the history of Moses and the exodus from Egypt has been narrated in many ways by authors from different nationalities and religions: besides the biblical portrait of Moses there was Moses as seen by classical writers, Jewish-Hellenistic historians, Pseudoepigrapha, Samaritan authors, Rabbinical exegesis and Aggadah. The course will be an exploration of Moses' tradition, searching for hints about its formation and functions. Every step will lend the opportunity to discuss some critical question in the study of biblical text, such as the relationship between canonical texts and parallel traditions, biblical narrative and history, Bible and myth, Hebrews and their near eastern neighbors.
The course offers the opportunity to learn Biblical Hebrew (1/3 out of the teaching hours): to complete the study of Hebrew grammar students are recommended to attend the course since the first semester (Ebraico).
