Acquisition of basic knowledge about the mechanical behavior of the main building materials and of the main elements and structural systems made with them. Methods and tools for structural safety, such as to allow the designing of medium-sized new buildings and the assessment of existing ones. Topics include: classification and modeling of the actions, properties of building materials (masonry, concrete, steel and wood), behavior of structural elements (beams, columns, walls, arches and vaults).
